Local WWII Historian Niek Hendrix of Ospel, Netherlands, purchased the above map at a local auction. On the back of the map, the word "DISPOSAL" seems to indicate that the map, carefully and nicely made as it was, had not been included in any After Action Report or other report and was thus not considered worth retention. So we are fortunate that it survived. The fact that it is marked "Map C" indicates that there were likely a Map A and a Map B. We can only hope that these eventually are found.

This page will have further enhancements. But at this time, it is best to refer to the following original records (from the 7th Armored Division Document Repository web page) for further information:

Niek also purchased the following map of the battle positions at Meijel 28 Oct 1944. It is labeled "Map 'D' Company Disposition 28 Oct 44" and on the back "DISPOSAL". No company is indicated. But the positions are roughly where units of 48th Armored Infantry Battalion were located that day. The red markings appear to be the location of German forces.

There are fainter numbered positions, including five ellipses just up the Asten-Meijel road from Meijel. There are also what appear to be markings including the number 3 further north along the road, just before it bends to the NW. Most likely these are all positions of Company "C" of 48th Armored Infantry Battalion.
